Belle Slaughter: The Complete Story of the Infamous Female Serial Killer
Belle Gunness was born Brynhild Paulsdatter Størset on November 11, 1859, in Selbu, Norway. She was the eldest of eight children born to Paul Størset and Berit Olsdatter. Belle's father was a farmer and her mother was a homemaker. The family was poor and Belle had to work hard from a young age. She helped her mother with the housework and also worked on the family farm. Belle was a strong and independent girl, and she was often seen as a leader among her siblings.

In 1881, Belle married Mads Sorenson, a neighbor. The couple had four children together, but their marriage was not happy. Mads was a heavy drinker and he was often abusive towards Belle. In 1884, Belle left Mads and took her children with her. She moved to America and settled in Chicago.
Belle worked as a dressmaker in Chicago and she soon met Peter Gunness, a wealthy farmer. The couple married in 1888 and moved to a farm in La Porte, Indiana.
Belle's Farm
Belle's farm was a popular destination for Norwegian immigrants. She offered them food and lodging, and she helped them to find work. Belle was also known for her hospitality and she often invited people to her home for dinner. However, there was a dark side to Belle's farm. She was a ruthless killer and she murdered at least 14 people, including her own children.
Belle's first victim was her husband, Peter Gunness. She killed him in 1900, and she collected his life insurance policy. Belle then began to kill her boarders. She would lure them to her farm with promises of marriage or work, and then she would murder them and steal their money.
Belle's Capture
Belle's reign of terror came to an end in 1908, when she was arrested for the murder of Andrew Helgelien. Helgelien was a wealthy farmer who had been courting Belle. Belle had killed him and buried his body on her farm.
After her arrest, Belle confessed to murdering 14 people. She was convicted of murder and sentenced to death. Belle was hanged on June 18, 1908. She was the first woman to be hanged in Indiana.
Belle's Motives
Belle's motives for killing are still unknown. Some believe that she was simply a greedy psychopath who enjoyed killing. Others believe that she was driven by a desire for revenge against the men who had wronged her. Whatever her motives, Belle Slaughter remains one of the most notorious female serial killers in American history.
Belle's Legacy
Belle Slaughter's story has been told and retold for over a century. She has been the subject of books, articles, and movies. Her farm has become a popular tourist destination, and it is said that her ghost still haunts the property. Belle Slaughter is a fascinating and terrifying figure, and her story is a reminder of the darkness that can lurk within the human heart.
